The Victoria
Day Cruise
Chemainus,
was a new destination for our cruisers.
This small town on the east coast of
Vancouver Island is famous for its
historical murals and lumber exports. It is
across from Kuper Island and is easily
accessible for a long weekend cruise.
Speaking of which, we had excellent weather,
(sunshine both days), and calm seas for our
arrival and departure. The vessels in
attendance were; Distant Drum (Pat), Palaran
(Darcy and Val), Meridian (Dave), Maresia
(Tom and Susie), Justavacation (Bruce and
Sheila) supervised by Commander Beverley and
Past Commander Nancy.
Our traditional
Happy Hour was a great success thanks to the
creative offerings provided. For
appetizers, Bruce baited his prawn traps,
giving us a choice of barbequed or boiled
prawns served on the wide concrete docks.
Our hospitality was extended to another
couple who reciprocated by offering a
delicious plate of salmon with a special
sauce. Sunday afternoon we went for an
impromptu one-hour cruise courtesy of Bruce
and Sheila. We cruised by Stuart Channel in
a relaxed mode (see pictures). We visited
Tent Island and a cove near Augusta Point on
Kuper Island. Dinner that
night, was a
change from the usual. A garden placement
was the perfect setting for our Japanese
three course meal
at Kudos Restaurant.
The next
morning dawned on overcast skies. To avoid
the rain later in the day, most of us
departed early to return home after a
perfect weekend.
