October 8-10, 2011 Squamish Yacht
Club
Kama Lua, Deep Pockets and Maple Leaf
were the boats in attendance; along with two land
yachts (perhaps the little trailer is more like a
dinghy). People started to arrive on Friday and we
enjoyed Ray and Denise’s hospitality on Deep Pockets
that evening. More people arrived on Saturday in
time for a group bicycle ride along the dyke. Darcy
was able to find a bicycle shop within easy walking
distance so those who wanted to ride but did not
bring bikes were able to join in the fun. The
Squamish area has a multitude of trails that range
from flat to mountainous. We chose to stay on the
flat (but somewhat bumpy) trails. Some serious
‘shoppers’ chose to spend the afternoon surveying
the shops in downtown Squamish and helping out the
local economy. Saturday was Happy Hour night and
that meant more food and socializing. Pat M. brought
his guitar and song sheets and those who wanted to,
sang while others chatted and were serenaded.
Sunday was the night for Thanksgiving turkey dinner
and there was a buzz of activity in the clubhouse
for most of the afternoon. The aroma of turkey and
fixings in the quaint clubhouse greeted members as
they arrived. Once everyone was seated we counted 26
members and guests. Darlene read a Thanksgiving
message that noted how lucky we are to live where we
live and have the abilities to enjoy boating and
sharing good times with our friends in the Burnaby
Power and Sail Squadron.
We’d like to say a special thank you
to Betty for organizing and cooking the Sunday feast
and to Les Smith and the Squamish Yacht Club for the
use of their docks and facilities. We also thank
Mother Nature for providing a little sunshine on our
final cruise of the year.
