CRUISE TO
DESOLATION SOUND SUMMER ‘08
Hello All
Burnaby Squadron Cruisers,
After a brief
introductory meeting at your Cruisemaster’s house to
determine the viability of a Desolation Sound Cruise
for the summer of ’08, all were in accord to proceed
full steam ahead. The following points were
established mainly for first time cruisers to that
destination.
-
PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE For gas engines, a
service tune up to include fuel injection or
carburetor, ignition components, batteries, air
and fuel filters, impellers, hoses and belts.
For diesel engines service fuel filters and
belts
- SPARE
PARTS For gas engines, bring the good spark
plugs from your last tune up, spare cap and
rotor, or the electronic ignition coil and
ballast resistor. Also bring new gas filter,
impeller and spare props that match your drives
or legs including counter rotation spare parts.
For diesel bring fuel filters belts and hoses.
- CHARTS
Bring LC3512, 3513, 3538, 3541, 35439 or
electronic.
- FOOD,
FRESH OR FROZEN Bring 3 days of fresh food and
the balance should be frozen. You can replenish
at Refuge Cove, Heriot Bay and Lund. Marinas
are at Gorge Harbour, Heriot Bay, Refuge Cove
and Campbell River.
- FUEL
CONSUMPTION Determine fuel usage as follows:
fill up at your Marina, then run at cruising
speed for one hour and fill up again to
calculate liters per hour. Repeat at 6-7 knots
to determine displacement speed. If you can use
a dipstick, run for one hour as above and
measure the inches for consumption.
- FUEL
TANK CAPACITY Measure length, width and height
to determine cubic footage (1 cubic foot = 28.32
L, or 7.48 US gal, or 6.23 Imp gal).
- BATTERY
TEST At your dock, simulate 2 days at anchor;
anchor light at night, reading lights on for 2
evenings, cook meals if you have an electric
range etc. Better yet anchor close by to your
marina with friends and spend two nights at
anchor.
-
DEPARTURE DATE Meet at Pender Harbour Garden
Bay Marina Saturday August 2nd 2008.
The cruise will take a minimum 10 days from
Vancouver so count on 2 weeks total, Seattle a
few days longer.
- CRUISE
TYPE Most likely our cruise will split up into
smaller groups that want to make mileage or
spend a couple days at one location, most of the
time in a raft up situation.
Any
questions, please call Cruisemaster Dave at 604 299
1055 and also let me know if you are coming.
