In all there
were 13 boats in attendance the same as last year.
Both the Polaris and the Grand “Cs” had family come
over by ferry to visit. Mike and Jen M had Jen’s
daughter Mariah and her friend Justine along with
Mike’s brother Gary and his wife Femina. Jule
Hopkins had her daughter Kori and son in-law Scott
as well as grandchildren Oakley and Autumn. The
total number of participants over the weekend was
47. This is 18 more than last year.
This year
the weather allowed us to have Saturday night
appetizers and Sunday night potluck dinner on the
dock. As per usual, the food and company for both
evenings was superb. On Sunday evening Jule along
with her able assistant “Judge Ray” conducted a game
to test our knowledge of the most popular excuses
used when calling in to miss work. The three
contestants chosen were Denise Lindroos, Dave
Holbrook and Bob Douglas. As you may recall there
was some controversy over last years result.
However, Judge Ray made it perfectly clear that,
while there may not have been an equal opportunity
for all the contestants to adequately “influence”
his decision making last year that would not happen
this time. In fact he called a recess during the
proceedings on the pretext of having the moderator (Jule)
go and get the prizes. While there were no overt
attempts to “influence” his decision there may well
have been some subtle overtures. In the end Denise
was judged to be first Dave second and Bob a
somewhat distant third.
Other
activities for the weekend included hiking to
Killarney Lake, and Dorman Pt. There was also
browsing the local shops and getting together to
exchange the experiences gathered over the summer.
It was a very pleasant three days. Monday morning
arrived and it was time to make the journey to
respective homeports.
