BURNABY SQUADRON'S
COMMUNITY CRUISE - 2008 |
Community Cruise ‘08
This year we hosted a new group; the
Volunteer Grandparents, in keeping with our Give
back to the Community program. The volunteer
grandparents are matched with families with young
children, who do not have accessible grandparents.
There are benefits for both parties in this
relationship, as social and emotional needs of older
adults and families are meet.
This was quite an enthusiastic group;
23 strong including children, volunteer grandparents
and parents, with no cancellations. Darcy O.
arranged for 5 boats and deckhands. The boats were
loaded on Saturday June 14th under
favorable skies. Ray and Denise’s boat Deep
Pockets led the way with Meridian, Kama Lua,
Single Malt and Windemere close behind. We
conned our way around Indian Arm through Twin
Islands to Bedwell Bay for a raft up on one anchor,
with a sandwich lunch prepared by Darcy, Val, Ian
Stephanie and Dave.
This was a most active group! The
kids and adults were doing quite a bit of boat
hopping and socializing. The kids were very excited
to explore all the gunnels and bowsprits, especially
the ladders to the bridges. The pleasure exhibited
by our guests was our reward. Please see
photos and thank you note below:
