The
Canada Day Cruise Report
The Squadron’s Canada Day Cruise this
year was to Sidney on the east side of the Saanich
peninsula. The Port of Sidney Marina is a modern
and well-maintained facility. Its location is
convenient to shopping and restaurants. There is a
shoreline walk extending from the marina well past
the Anacortes/Sidney ferry dock.
The Vessels attending were Tuppence
(John & Hazel), Palaran (Darcy &Val), Tillicum (Bob
&Barb, Steve & Barb from Seattle Squadron), Abacus
(Ken & Pat), O’Sea II (Frank & Ruth), Promises (Al &
Karen), Lapland (Keith & Sharon) and Nirvana (Irv &
Josie). In addition there were Dave & Sinnikka,
Steve & Judy, Bev, Nancy and Leon & Kathy who came
by land. Others planned to attend but the weather
made the crossing from the lower mainland difficult,
to say the least.
The appetizers on the evening of the
first went very well. It gave those of us new to
the Squadron a chance to meet the membership and it
also provided an opportunity for members to renew
acquaintances. On the second of July we had a
slightly more formal dinner. The original plan was
to go to a restaurant but none of the nearby
restaurants were able to accommodate our group of 25
people. However, one of them offered to make the
meal for us. We just had to pick it up and bring it
back to the marina. The food was excellent for both
evenings, as was the company.
The Friday morning the wind started
to drop and the Cruisers left to continue their
cruises.
