BURNABY SQUADRON'S COMMUNITY CRUISE - 2006
In conjunction with our squadron’s Give Back to the Community Program we initiated this year our Community Cruise, which is the subject of this article.

At Reed Point Marina, on a beautiful sunny June 26th 2006, Burnaby Squadron Boats, Meridian, Palaran, Nauta Canu, Maple Leaf, Bossy lady and Kama Lua loaded our waiting guests, directed by our dockmaster Darcy O’Shea.  They were waiting with great anticipation for a once a year boat ride, and for some, their first time adventure on the water.  The guests, thirty-six in number, comprised the Burnaby Brain Injury Group and the volunteer care givers who assist Burnaby Citizens Support Services, taking Burnaby seniors on outings.

Skippers Dave Holbrook, Darcy O’Shea, Jack Wainwright, Bill Grout, Gord Nex and Bob Douglas with a deckhand each, were present to assist our passengers aboard.  The skippers volunteered their boats, time and fuel for a good cause.

Once underway we cruised from Burrard Inlet into Indian Arm, Bedwell Bay being our final destination  Along the way our guests enjoyed the beautiful scenery, including the waterfront real estate.  Five boats rafted up to our flag ship Bossy Lady, who had set down a very secure forty-five pound Danforth anchor.  Bathed in sunshine, we all enjoyed our sandwich lunch prepared by Val, Darcy, Ian O’Shea, and Dave Holbrook.

After 4 hours on the water we returned to the Marina.  We were rewarded with much heartfelt gratitude from some very happy people who enjoyed a day on the water under ideal conditions.
